One phrase we use a lot when we talk about what 42 Questions does is “saving time”.
It sounds simple. Schools are busy. Teachers are busy. SENCOs are very busy. So building tools that save time feels like an obvious thing to say. But over the last few weeks, while updating our website content, I have been trying to be more specific about what we actually mean by that.
Because saving time is not just about making something faster. It is about reducing the admin that gets in the way of SENCOs working directly with pupils. It is about helping staff spend less time writing the same information again in slightly different formats. It is about making better use of information that has already been written down. And it is about giving schools more space to focus on pupils and how to support them.
As we speak to schools, we are learning that the pressure is not always one big obvious task. Often, it is lots of smaller things that build up across the week. Writing the same information more than once. Turning existing notes into a different format. Starting each form from scratch. These tasks may not sound huge on their own. But together, they take up a lot of time and headspace.
We are not just asking, “Can this task be done faster?”
We are also asking, “How can we make this process easier for the people doing it?”
That feels like an important distinction.
As we continue building 42 Questions, we are going to keep paying attention to the everyday admin that builds up. Less time repeating work means more time to focus on pupils.
